Presidential Think-Thank On Security To Host Summit In Abuja

The Presidential Think-Tank on Defence and Security, will be hosting a summit on protecting the country’s critical assets in Abuja between the 6th and 7th of December.  

This much the chairman of the group Maj. Gen Abdulmalik Jibril (Retd) disclosed at a press briefing held in Abuja on Thursday.  

He stated that the summit with the theme: “Protecting Nigeria’s Critical Infrastructure, Monuments and Business Assets” will come up with ideas which will greatly reduce the vulnerability of critical infrastructure across the country.

While explaining important national infrastructure to be facilities, systems, people and sites, Jibril said time had come for Nigeria adopt proactive approach to manage and protect its assets.

He said: “This summit is basically in response to the call-to-arms of President Muhammadu Buhari to the Armed Forces, intelligence and security establishments, business owners as well as to all residents of Nigeria to work in concert to reducing the vulnerability of the nation’s critical infrastructure by strengthening their ability to withstand and recover from disruption.

“There are some parts of the national infrastructure system that are judged to be critical to the functioning of the country. Those critical elements pf infrastructure (Facilities, virtual and physical systems, sites, property, information, people, networks and processes), the loss or compromise of which result in major detrimental impact on the availability, delivery, or integrity or essential services, leading to severe economic or social consequences or to loss of life.

‘So, the summit is about the owners of such critical infrastructure to network with the subject matters experts to bring their whole-of-society perspectives to bear in developing or contributing to the development of policy”.
