Deputy chairman of the House of Representatives committee on anti-corruption, Rep. Dachung Musa Bagos (PDP, Plateau) has been honoured by the Guardian newspapers with the award of distinction in lawmaking and representation.
The Guardian in recognising the lawmaker said “Rep Daching Musa Bagos who represents Jos south/Jos east Federal constituency of Plateau state in the House of Representatives has stunned political observers and this who track the process of the activities of the Nigerian legislature”
The paper said “Leading all the other members from his home state by the number of bills sponsored despite being a first term lawmaker and having spent just two years in his job at the National Assembly, Bagos has now firmly established himself as a lawmaker of great quality, rich value and high national importance”
According to the publication, “This has earned him the highly coveted spot on the elitist chart of top ten Honourable members with the most bills in the entire 9th Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“His entry into this top tier of uncommon and high flying achievers was made possible through his clear focus, diligence and commitment to work, which enabled him to sponsor and register 32 bills in just two years”.
It noted that “To post such a record in just twenty months, is no small task, considering the myriad of challenges that are normally faced by Newbies in the business of lawmaking and other aspects of legislature.
“Therefore , his outstanding performance and previous record of integrity and credibility may have informed his membership of the as af hoc comittees, 12 House committees and the deputy chairman of the House comittee on anti- corruption”
Earlier, in the letter conveying his nomination for the award titled “Most outstanding first-time federal legislators in Nigeria (Reps): 2019 to date” signed by the editor in chief of The Guardian, Mr. Martins Oloja, the paper said his nomination for “the honour was measured against a list of benchmarks that were set by our team of researchers, judges and independent consultants, including the number and quality of bills sponsored, sound contributions in plenary sessions, as well as the number and viability of constituency projects undertaken, among other relevant legislative actions and leadership qualities”.
The paper also noted that “This gesture of ours will further boost your resolve to continue serving your nation with pride and dedication. It is our hope that this exercise will serve as a motivation to others to do better in their service to fellow country man and women in whichever capacity they may find themselves”
Responding, Hon. Bagos said the award has challenges him to do more for his people. “I am very delighted to have been so honoured and the award will definetely serve as an impetus for me to do more and remain committed to the contract I have with my constituents”, he stated.
