Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Rep. Abdulrazak Namdas is to declare his intention to run for the office of Speaker of the 9th House on
The House spokesman will make the declaration ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC’s), decision on zoning of principal offices said to take place on Wednesday, Frontline News Online can reveal.
Namdas is a returning member representing Jada/Ganye/Mayo Belwa/Toungo Federal Constituency of Adamawa State.
Elected on the platform of the ruling APC in 2015, Namdas’ declaration will bring the number of top contenders for the post of speaker to 6 so far.
The leadership of the APC on Monday called a meeting of all lawmakers elected on it’s party’s platform, and zoning if principal offices was top on the agenda.
Other than Namdas, others interested in taking over from Rep. Yakubu Dogara as Speaker are: Rep Femi Gbajabiamila from Lagos, Rep. Chike Okafor from Imo State, Rep. Ahmed I Wase from Plateau, Rep. Muhammad Umar Bago from Niger, Rep. Babangida Ibrahim from Katsina and Rep. Aminu Sulaiman from Kano .
But as at the time of filing this report, Namdas’ impending declaration is the one preceding those of other contenders.
