Bayern Munich star Sadio Mane was grieving the death of a close family member when he attacked team-mate Leroy Sane on Tuesday night, according to reports.
The Senegalese winger has been temporarily suspended by the German champions, after he instigated a brawl with Sane following their 3-0 defeat at Manchester City.
Sane and Mane were seen confronting each other as they trudged off the pitch at the Etihad Stadium and the row boiled over when they went down the tunnel.
As the clash continued into the dressing room, Mane punched the German and left him with a bloodied lip, before the pair were dragged away from each other.
The dark scenes have led to Mane’s suspension with the German club, however a new report has offered an explanation to his rash actions on Tuesday night.
Acorrding to the Mirror, Mane was grieving the death of his aunt when he attacked Bayern Munich team-mate Leroy Sane.
The outlet claim that Bayern’s chiefs were well aware of the situation surrounding Mane, who was upset over the passing of his aunt last weekend.
The winger has always held a close relationship with his family and is said to have been rocked by the news of his aunt’s death, which influenced his attack on Sane.
In the wake of his actions, Bayern confirmed that he had been axed from the squad for their Bundesliga clash with Hoffenheim on Saturday and that the winger would receive an undisclosed fine.
A statement on the club website read: ‘Sadio Mané , 31, will not be in the FC Bayern squad for the home game against 1899 Hoffenheim next Saturday.
‘The reason is misconduct by Mané after FC Bayern’s Champions League game at Manchester City. In addition, Mané will receive a fine.’
A number of Bayern’s stars are reportedly shocked by the incident and critical of the Senegalese international for punching Sane, who was one of Munich’s better players on the night.
The former Man City winger obscured his lip when he touched down in Munich on Thursday morning, keen to hide any evidence of the altercation to the cameras.
