Saraki trails Oloriegbe by over 19,000 votes

Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki

Senate President Bukola Saraki needs about 20,000 votes to close the gap between him and Dr. Ibrahim Oloriegbe, the APC challenger in the race for the Kwara Central senatorial district. Saraki Saraki further lost pace with Oloriegbe following the announcement of the result of Ilorin East Local government, the second local government in his senatorial district.

Oloriegbe had beaten Saraki, 15, 392 votes to 11, 252 in Asa. In Ilorin East LG, he outpaced Saraki 30,014 votes to 14,654 votes, stretching the gap to 19,500 votes. The results were announced by INEC. Results from Ilorin West and ilorin South are still being expected. Bukola Saraki of the Peoples Democratic Party lost Asa Local government to the All Progressives Congress, according to the result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

He was not the only one mourning the loss as the party’s governorship candidate Razak Atunwa comes from Efue, in the council area. Atunwa is the incumbent House of Representatives member representing Asa and Ilorin West Federal Constituency.

According to INEC, while APC polled a total of 15, 932 votes, PDP scored 11, 252 votes The result of the election was announced by the Returning Officer for ASA Local Government, Prof Emmanuel Sanya at the state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ilorin on Sunday. APC won in 12 of the 17 wards in in Asa while PDP won in five wards.
