School proprietor harps on community service to boost education as pupils donate desks to nomadic school

The Director of creative kids Academy Kubwa, Abuja, Mrs. Tawa Adedeji, has harped on the need for Nigerians especially the elite to support the government by engaging  more in community services in order to provide a better environment for education.

The school proprietor said this on Tuesday when Creative accedemy graduating pupils  visited and donated desks to the  LEA  Nomadic Primary school Dutse Alhaji, while noting that some schools in Abuja are in poor condition.

She said, “when we first visited this school, we discovered that most  of the children were sitting on the floor they don’t  have enough seats, so we felt like as a neighbor, we have to do something to help our community, so the children that are graduating this year decided to donate some desks.”

She added, “when i look at the educational system, I discovered that a lot of things are not right, children have the right to have the best of education and we need to support the government. I think its also our responsibility as citizens to help if we are in the position to”.

“We teach our pupils that its their responsibility to make this country a better place. We decided that from their primary school they should start being responsible for the community. When they grow up with this and become the president or a senator, they would always want to go back to the grass root and help.”

Adedeji further informed that the community service is an annual project embarked upon by the school graduating pupils . She said it’s part of the school value system.

“last year the graduating student donated to the Dutse health centre,  bed sheets, high blood pressure machine and chairs for their visitors, and in the previous we donated to the police station, we gave them chairs also vest for traffic warders”, she said.

She also added that February 14th which is valentines day, is observed as charity day in the school where every children go out to orphanage homes visit Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

Meanwhile, Speaking on the need for more collaboration with government to better the education system, the  head mistress of LEA Nomadic primary school,  Amaka Meheobi urged of Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) , parents and influential persons in the society to engage in community service.

She said, “The government are trying their best, we have so many schools and demands, that’s why we need more community services, NGOs, parents and other people to assist the government. we have to work hand in hand to carry the education forward to see that these children have a conducive environment for learning”.

Meheobi while expressing excitement as the pupils donated desks said the school lacked desks.

The head girl of the creative kids Academy, Faith olawuyi while speaking said she is doing the community development to help other pupils, and her community. She added that she would love to make schools more better in every way needful in the future”.

In the same vein, the Head boy, Brian kelikume, explained that community service is a way of giving others opportunity enjoyed. He said, ” in future, I will build more schools, and help feed some school pupils.”

Another graduating pupil who spoke to our correspondent was Nazeeya Idris, she said “I am excited that we are giving helping hand to the needy, this is part of the value system the school has impacted on us and I am very happy” she concluded.

The head teacher of the graduating pupils, Amadi Stanley,  stated that the community service is another way of educating the children.
