The Senate has commenced the screening of Lt.-General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, and the newly-appointed service chiefs.
To commence the process, the CDS and other Service Chiefs were ushered into the hallowed chamber at 12.46p.m.
The Senate Majority Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central), moved that since the Senate had once screened and cleared Oluyede for the position of the Chief of Army Staff, he shouldn’t be screened again.
In his response, the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio overruled Bamidele, stating that since he is being appointed into a new opposition, it was important for him to speak to the Senators about himself, his career and his experience so far, specifically as Chief of Army Staff.
