Senator Elisha Abbo Arrested For Rape

Senator Elisha Abbo

Former Adamawa North lawmaker, Senator Elisha Abbo, is in police custody after turning himself in to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja over allegations that he raped a 13-year-old student.

The girl’s parents alleged that the incident happened on June 29, 2025, at Abbo’s residence in Katampe, Abuja. They also claimed that the former senator tried to cover up the case by offering money to the victim’s father.

In another development, the family accused Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, also known as Binani, of visiting them to discourage them from pursuing the matter publicly.

Police sources confirmed that Abbo is still being held at the FCID headquarters, where investigators are questioning him. A senior officer said the case is being handled with seriousness and that “no stone will be left unturned.”

This is not the first time Abbo has been linked to controversy. In 2019, a viral video showed him assaulting a saleswoman in an Abuja shop, which drew national outrage. More recently, he was accused of trying to blackmail a married woman with an intimate video.

The latest case has sparked anger among rights groups and women’s organizations, who are calling on the authorities to ensure justice. The Child Protection Network in Lagos described the case as “a test for Nigeria’s criminal justice system,” urging the police to resist political pressure.

Abbo, who lost his Senate seat after a 2023 court ruling, has remained in the news largely for scandals rather than political achievements. His current arrest has fueled online debates, with many Nigerians demanding his swift prosecution.

As of the time of reporting, neither Abbo nor his legal team has issued a statement.
