As Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) prepares for its national convention on the 30th of October, a South West group has revealed why the zone should produce the next national Chairman.
Recall that the party had recently fixed October 30th for its national convention, where new National Working Committee (NWC) members will be elected.
The group, under the aegis of South West PDP Alliance said that this is the time for other zones of the party to work with the South West to produce a National Chairman.
The Alliance, in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Dapo Folarin, noted that South West is one of the strongest zones in the country, where the nation generates its highest Value Added Tax (VAT).
The group said that there is need for the party to use chairmanship to solidify its position in the region.
The South West PDP Alliance further noted that since the inception of the party, the zone has not produce national Chairman, adding that the party shouldn’t discrimination the zone.
The group said that this is the time the party should forge a common ground and solidify its position ahead of 2023.
“South-West is not a zone PDP should joke with. This is the time PDP should hold the zone very serious.
“We only have one governor in the zone and the South-West has never produced a National Chairman since PDP came to power in 1999. This is the time for us to increase our presence in South-West.
“We cannot afford to lose this zone. Some years back, majority of the states were under PDP, this is the time to make our presence strong in the zone again by having our national chairman from there.”
