A picture with a smiling President Muhammadu Buhari and controversial Super Model, Naomi Campbell has gone viral on social media.
Campbell and PMB, as Nigeria’s president is fondly called, took the picture during his working visit to Lagos State. The British born model has had her fair share of controversies with African presidents. She appeared at the Hague in 2012, playing a critical role in the sentencing of former Liberian president and ex-warlord, Charles Taylor for crimes against humanity. Taylor had given Campbell diamonds, she allegedly rejected as ‘dirty stones”.
The leggy model has been linked to Nigerian men in the past, namely, out-of-luck oil magnate, Kola Aluko. She is now dating, Skepta, a British rapper of Nigerian origin. Her mother, Valerie, was once linked to controversial businessman, Terry Waya.
Naomi Campbell confirmed Skepta dating rumors with a recent steamy GQ cover shoot. Speculation began in 2017, when Skepta dubbed Naomi his ‘favorite cover girl’. Skepta is the first man Naomi’s been linked to since millionaire Louis C. Camilleri.
She seemingly confirmed rumors that she and musician Skepta are in a relationship via Instagram on Wednesday. Rumors have been swirling about the pair for some time.
Much to the delight of fans, Naomi, 47, shared a GQ cover featuring her and her beau cuddled close while wearing nothing but jewelry. The fashion industry icon can be seen smiling while Skepta appears to go in for a kiss.
Who is Skepta?
Born Joseph Junior Adenuga on September 19, 1982, Skepta is an English rapper, songwriter and producer. Although he was born in North London, his parents are Nigerian immigrants. He made his musical debut in 2007 with the release of his cleverly titled album, Greatest Hits.
Skepta’s second album, Microphone Champion, followed in 2009. Both albums were independent releases. By the time his third album, Doin’ It Again, was released in 2011, he had signed with AATW.
Naomi, who has a penchant for kiss and tell, is the proud owner of a long list of rich and famous men she dated in the past. They include ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson, Usher Raymond, Quincy Jones, Gerald Butler, Sean ‘Puffy’ Combs and Prince Albert of Monaco.
Back to Campbell’s visit to Nigeria which she announced on Instagram, was on the invitation of President Buhari, the reactions followed by Frontline News Online showed that Nigerians are divided on the matter. The comments have been varying. Some of those, who commented on a Facebook Post by popular journalist and lawyer, Richard Akinnola which had Campbell and Buhar’s picture, were not impressed.This is while some argued that there is nothing absurd about the president taking a photo with the super model.
“It is not about belly aching and l didn’t criticise the president. I am raising an important issue of lack of discretion on the part of the protocol. I don’t even think the president knows her” Akinnola said in response to one of his friends, Emmanuel Majebi.
Majebi had opined that Nigerians were making a big deal of the picture. This is just as another Facebook user,
Tope Babalola stressed that PMB freely shook hands with Campbell, despite past criticisms by Muslim Clerics, that he should’t be shaking hands with the opposite sex. To buttress his point, Babalola added a picture of the president and the super model shaking hands.
‘President Buhari Didn’t Invite Campbell’
With the President and Campbell trending for hours on Twitter on Friday, his aide Bashir Ahmed put up a denial.
” For the sake of clarity, President @MBuhari didn’t invite Ms. Naomi Campbell to any event during his 2-day visit to Lagos State. They only met at the Eko Atlantic City while Mr. President was touring the project, and she requested to take photos with him”, Ahmed tweeted.
