Tambuwal Loses Out As Bamidele Emerges Senate Leader, Davou As Minority Leader

President Of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio has announced the list of principal officers of the 10th Senate, which he said was “after due consultations by the political parties concerned.

Akpabio announced the Majority Leader of the senate to be Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, while his Deputy is Senator David Umahi who is the immediate past Governor of Ebonyi State.

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume was also elected as Chief Whip of the Senate, while Senator Lola Ashiru is to serve as his Deputy.

Meanwhile, President of the Senate also announced Leaders of the minority caucus to include, Senator Mwadkon Simon Davou (PDP, Plateau North) as the Minority Leader, while Senator Oyewumi Kamorudeen Olarere (PDP Osun West) as the Deputy Minority Leader.

Tambuwal the immediate past governor of Sokoto State and former Speaker was speculated to be interested in leading the minority caucus but his aspiration was strongly resisted by some forces in the PDP led by former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike. The announcement of Davou indicates that Tambuwal lost out in the battle of wits.
