Katsina State lawmaker, Senator Mustapha Bukar has died at the age of 63 after a brief illness.

According to a report, which has been confirmed by the presidency, the lawmaker died early on Wednesday, April 4, 2018.

Before his death, he represented Katsina North Senatorial District (Daura zone) where President Muhammadu Buhari is from.

While reacting to the lawmaker’s death on Wednesday, President Buhari’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad , posted on his official Twitter account that Bukar was “an honest man” .

Senator Bukar was elected to the Senate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015 and, until his death, was the Vice-Chairman of the Senate’s Power Commitee.

He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University in 1978; and in 1989, he was appointed General Manager/Chief Executive of the Katsina State Water Board and made Commissioner for Agriculture and Water Resources.

Senator Bukar’s death follows a string of two similar losses that the National Assembly has suffered in recent weeks.

Lawmaker representing Bauchi South senatorial district, Ali Wakili, slumped at his Gwarimpa residence in Abuja and was confirmed dead at a hospital on March 17, 2018, while member representing Lokoja/Kogi federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Umar Jibril , died in the early hours of Friday, March 30, 2018.

It’s also worthy of note that Bukar is the second chairman of the Senate Committee on Capital Market to die. The first being the Late Isiaka Adeleke.

APC mourns

Meanwhil, the All APC has described  Bukar’s death as great loss to the party.

The APC in a statement issued by it’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Bolaji Abdullahi, stated that though a first-time federal lawmaker, the late Senator Bukar made his mark in the Senate through his progressive and pro-people legislative interventions, particularly through his chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Capital Market.

“At Party level, we have indeed lost a dependable and loyal Party man who contributed immensely to the growth and strength of our great Party”, the statment read.
