The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday read the communication from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu seeking the confirmation of the newly appointed Service Chiefs.
Recall that Tinubu carried out sweeping changes in the nation’s military high command.
In a statement issued on Friday, 24 October by Sunday Dare, special adviser to the president on media and public communication, Tinubu named Olufemi Oluyede as the new chief of defence staff, replacing Christopher Musa.

The statement read in part:
“President Bola Tinubu has made changes in the hierarchy of the Service Chiefs in furtherance of the efforts of the Federal Government of Nigeria to strengthen the national security architecture.
“The President appointed General Olufemi Oluyede to replace General Christopher Musa as the new Chief of Defence Staff. The new Chief of Army Staff is Major-General W. Shaibu. Air Vice Marshall S.K Aneke is Chief of Air Staff while Rear Admiral I. Abbas is the new Chief of Naval Staff”.
“Chief of Defence Intelligence Major-General E.A.P Undiendeye retains his position”.
According to the letter read by Akpabio, the Service Chiefs are Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Waheedi Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke and Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General Emmanuel Undiendeye
Akpabio thereafter referred it to the committee of the whole for screening and confirmation of the nominees, next week.
