The Court of Appeal has said is judgment sacking Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State still stands.
Yusuf was the candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, in the March 18 governorship poll in Kano State.
The Appeal Court upheld the decision of Kano State Governorship Tribunal, which declared Dr. Nasiru Gawuna of All Progressives Congress, APC, winner of the poll.
The appelate court’s clarification came as the NNPP filed its appeal at the Supreme Court. It also called on to the National Judicial Council, NJC, to probe the judgment.
The APC has dismissed concerns raised about the reported contradictions in the CTC, saying it was of no issue.
Tension reached the peak in Kano on Wednesday when the NNPP supporters began a protest in the Kofar Nasarawa area after a prayer organised for the governor.
The protesters after leaving the venue of the prayer, blocked the road in the community with bonfires and wood, disrupting vehicular movements.
The protest lasted for about 30 mins before the Kanos State police command dispatched its personnel to disperse the protesters, who resisted the security personnel by throwing sticks and stones at the policemen.
The protesters were later dispersed by policemen who threw teargas canisters at them.
