The mother of Late pop star, Whitney Houston, Cissy Houston, has died at 91.
NewYorkPost quotes Cissy’s daughter-in-law, Pat Houston, as telling the Associated Press that the two-time Grammy winner passed away in her New Jersey home on Monday while in hospice care for Alzheimer’s.
“Our hearts are filled with pain and sadness. We loss the matriarch of our family,” Pat said in a statement. She added that her mother-in-law’s contributions to music and culture are “unparalleled.”
Cissy and Whitney had a complicated relationship. Cissy a conservative Christian was said to have disagreed with her daughter’s choice of husband in Bobby Brown. She also disapproved of Whitney’s romance with her best friend Robyn.
In Remembering Whitney, the mother of the late Whitney Houston disclosed that from the start she had doubted whether Brown was right for her daughter. And she thinks that Whitney might not have ended up so “deep” into drugs if she hadn’t married Bobby with whom she had a daughter Bobbi Kristin who also died in controversial circumstances.
“I do believe her life would have turned out differently,” Houston writes. “It would have been easier for her to get sober and stay sober. Instead she was with someone who, like her, wanted to party. To me, he never seemed to be a help to her in the way she needed.”
