Wisdom International School of Excellence (WISE) has donated toilets and water supply projects to its host community in Tudunwada district of Lugbe, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The school announced that the project, which is part of the school’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) facilitated a toilet, water borehole, hand washing and plastic reuse facilities within the community.
The National Task Group on Sanitation (NTGS) and the FCT Rural Water and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) commissioned the project at the weekend.
A statement issued by the school explained that besides boosting the water supply and sanitation needs of the community, the project would also “contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3,4,6, 9, 11, 13 and 17. It will also help the students to learn about strategic thinking, creativity and problem solving.”
The Head of the School, Mrs. Adesuwa Ogwu, appreciated the efforts of the Tudunwada traditional council, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) and a private firm – Fatoa & Associates Nigeria Limited – in partnering with WISE towards ensuing that the community is Open Defecation Free (ODF).
She encouraged parents to send their children and wards to Wisdom International School of Excellence (WISE) as a 21st century complaint school that prepares students for future challenges, financial and digital literacy.
The school also offers the community free medical outreach, entrepreneurship development, peace education, Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) during beneficiaries and students are trained in 21st century employability skills and competencies.
Mrs Ajumbi Achegbulu, the Programme Manager of Initiative for Education and Development (IDEE), another partner in the project, highlighted the significance of such partnerships and collaborations that enables schools, NGOs and private organizations work together to solve communal challenges.
The project is to be handed over to the community’s Water and Sanitation Committee (WASHCOM), which has engaged a private operator to ensure maintenance and sustainability of the facility.
Students of WISE spiced the commissioning ceremony with their performance of drama skits and songs on the importance of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in reducing diseases, poverty and COVID-19.
