The member representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency of Kogi State, Rep Teejay Yusuf has defeated Senator Dino Melaye to clinch the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Kogi West Senatorial District.

Yusuf and Melaye ran a tough race with both men scoring 88 votes each on Monday, but by Tuesday Yusuf emerged victorious with 168 votes to Melaye’s 99 votes.

Melaye who is fondly called the ‘singing senator’ conceded defeat announcing on his social media handles that the gang-up against him led to his loss.

“The primary has been fought and won. I congratulate Hon. T.J YUSUF and thank all those who voted in the first and second ballot for me. “The Gang up is unimaginable but l give God praise. God bless you all, the former senator said on Facebook.

But Yusuf on his part declared the primary which produced him as free and fair. He also commended other aspirants for ensuring that the process was peaceful. He assured on his Facebook post shared on Tuesday night that he would reach out to the losing aspirants and other party leaders to ensure the victory of the PDP in his district, Kogi and at the national level.

“Conscious of our firm resolve and commitment by every party faithful to not only RESCUE and REBUILD Nigeria (and our dear State) from the rudderless, confused and heartless APC led government that has enthroned grave economic hardship, economic squalor and unimaginable poverty on the citizenry, requires the commitment and sacrifices of ALL of us. As we prepare towards the February 2023 general elections, I will not only reach out but also seek the collaboration and synergy of my fellow contestants and other party faithful to flush out the APC. No man can do it alone…it requires the individual input and efforts of us ALL. That we have to, and must do”, he stated in the post.
