Today, I celebrate and congratulate all the graduates of the joint 35th, 36th and 37th convocation of Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto on 13th April 2019.
Congratulations to our fathers honoured-
HRH the Emir of Gwandu Muhammad Iliyasu Bashar CON with Doctor of Laws (LLD) and HRH Emir of Yauri Dr. Zayyanu Abdullahi CON with Vice Chancellor Emeritus. Another indigene honored was Prof. Tijjanni Muhammad Bande, OFR (Nigerian Permanent Representive to the UN and former NIPSS DG), Professor Tijjani Bande with a PHD Honoris Causa from the University.
I applaud the obvious diligence of the entire staff of the University led by Prof Abdullahi A Zuru(yes, another one of ours)
However, the most inspirational degree and my loudest ovation to a Kebbi State indigene is to Halima Usman, a 45yr old Senior Lecturer who achieved a PhD in Applied Mathematics with specialization in “Fluid Mechanics”
Dr Halima Usman fondly called Yar’Aljannah (Daughter of Paradise) by her students, is happily married with 8 children, one of whom just graduated as a Medical Doctor.
Indeed, hers is a wonderful achievement and proof that women can soar and marriage and childbirth is never an excuse not to. I thank her husband and family who must have supported her. May Allah SWA bless them even more and grant us many like her in Kebbi, Amin
