President of the Nigeria-Russia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NRCCI), Dr. Obiora Okonkwo has said the renewed collaboration between Nigeria and Russia under the NRCCI will attract huge investments to critical sectors of the Nigeria’s economy.
Speaking at a press conference to announce the formal inauguration of NRCCI scheduled for Tuesday, Okonkwo, who is the Zenith Labour Candidate (ZLP) candidate for the Anambra governorship election also said that Russia is ready to transfer technology which will boost Nigeria’s push for industrialization.
He stated that the NRCCI enjoyed strong support from the Nigerian government as further expressed by the meeting the team from his organization held with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at Aso Rock Presidential Villa on Monday. The Vice-President heads Nigeria’s economic management team.
He said, “As you may be aware, the Nigeria-Russia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NRCCI) was founded by my humble self. It is incorporated under the Companies and Allied Matters Act 1990, and has established beneficial relationships and contacts with numerous economic development organizations in Russia. Our aim is to promote commerce, industry, education and training between the two countries.
“The principal objectives of NRCCI is to promote commerce, industry, trade and ancillary services; foster, advance and protect commercial, industrial, trade and professional enterprises and, without limitation, other activities and business undertakings of all kinds in the locality and elsewhere”.
The Russian trained investor who has investments in tourism, aviation and the communications sectors further explained that NRCCI will also “promote, protect and extend industrial and commercial relations between individuals, firms, companies, corporations, institutions and associations of Nigeria and Russia as well as provide Nigerian and Russian businesses with a forum for contacts, discussion of common interest, information, advice and collation of ideas for the improvement of economic and business interests”.
He assured that the NRCCI will promote, organize and participate in seminars, conferences and trade missions between both countries as well as liaise with other Chambers of Commerce and bodies for the advancements of trade and commerce.
“As a chamber of Commerce and Industry, NRCCI shall provide and develop business services to members and to respond to enquiries; collect, analyze and disseminate information (including statistics and other economic and business information) on all subjects of interest to members; provide educational and industrial courses including higher educational and career advisory services to members and also, encourage, establish and support employment initiatives for the start-up of businesses and enterprises.
“NRCCI shall also act as marketing agents and provide recruitment services; provide resources for the protection of traders and manufacturers as well as organize seminars, symposia, conferences, trade fairs and exhibitions for the promotion of business and technological advancement in industry, agriculture and manufacturing”, he added.
Ambassador-at-Large and head of the Secretariat of Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, Oleg Ozerov said Russia recognized the importance of the Nigeria to its plan to improve business collaborations between his country and Africa.
Ozerov who led the delegation compromising of 10 investors said he was impressed with the quality of deliberations during the meeting with Vice-President Osibanjo. He opined that the NRCCI was the musch needed platform for Russian and Nigerian business to easily connect.
He noted that his delegation was the first or many that will visit Nigeria for long term investment and other useful collaborations.
“Nigeria as the largest country in Africa has resources which you can use to build a better future. We hope that we can build this better future together”, he said.
