The Yobe State Government is set to host the 5th Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum, a pivotal regional event focused on advancing cooperation, stabilization, peacebuilding, and promoting sustainable development among member states.
The forum, scheduled to take place from January 29th to 31st, 2025, in Maiduguri, will be declared open by President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Pre-forum events, which began on January 27, have already seen significant activity. On day one, traditional rulers from the region gathered to discuss key issues, while a press conference highlighted the level of preparations undertaken by the Local Organizing Committee (LOC). The LOC, chaired by Yobe State Secretary to the State Government Baba Malam Wali mni, has been working closely with the Lake Chad Basin Commission to finalize the agenda for the meeting.
The forum aims to tackle pressing challenges facing the region, including environmental degradation, climate change, and economic development. The event will bring together governors from Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, and Niger, as well as representatives from regional and international organizations.
The meeting is expected to produce a communiqué outlining key resolutions and action plans for the region. With its focus on regional cooperation and sustainable development, the 5th Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum is poised to make a significant impact on the region’s future.
