Nigerian Artists are capable of contributing immensely to solving the problem of insecurity in the country with the right investment in the industry.
Professor Emmanuel S. Dandaura, stated this on Tuesday in his paper titled, Creativity, Artists, Livelihoods in persistent insecurities at the 13th Annual Distinguished lecture of the National Gallery of Art in Lafiya, Nasarawa state.
Describing Artists as surgeons of the mind, professor Dandaura said, for humanity to enjoy good health, the life of artists must be given a boost.
He said creativity must occupy prime position in humanity for sustainability to be achieved .
He also said Government needs to pay as close attention to the welfare of artists as other contributors to national development by providing opportunities for Artists to thrive in their field.
Earlier, Minister of information and culture, Alh. Lai Muhammed pledged to make art a viable venture in Nigeria.
The Minister said the federal government will continue to diversify the economy, and will focus on tapping from the invaluable resources in art and tourism.
The minister also called on Nigerians not to see Art as a vocation only, but as a lucrative profession.
The annual lecture with the theme Creativity, Artists livelihoods and sustainability on persisting insecurities, had Professor Emmanuel Dandaura Director of the Institute of Strategic and Development Communication as guest lecturer.
