Ex-Rep To Atiku: Drop Your Presidential Ambition, Support Southerner

Rep. Tajudeen Yusuf

By Bukola Kayode

A former member of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Yusuf, has urged former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to drop his rumored presidential ambition for a southern candidate.

He said: โ€œIf I have my way, I will advise former Vice President Atiku, leave PDP ticket, let it go to the South even if we donโ€™t win presidential election, we would have been seen as going back to our original modus operandi where party positions are zoned,โ€ Yusuf said on Channels Televisionโ€™s Sunrise Daily programme on Thursday.

โ€œLook at the South-South and the South-East, which have been reasonably the bedrock of the PDP. You just come and pick a ticket, people will start losing hope because the desire of everybody is to get to the peak of their career”.

โ€œIf they now realise that because of the number that comes from one particular section in a primary election, they cannot get the ticket, they get frustrated,โ€ he added.

According to Yusuf who represented Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the 9th National Assembly, said the problems the PDP is currently struggling with is caused by the selfishness of certain leaders of the party.

The former lawmaker shared his opinion of the disintegration of the PDP during his appearance on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily programme on Wednesday.

Only on Tuesday, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori dumped the PDP for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) with his supporters citing the un-ending crisis at the national level of the PDP as a major reason for leaving the party.
