The family of slain University of Jos lecturer, Dr. Nandi Drenkat has appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu to intervene in the investigation into killing of the academician.
The appeal of family is contained in a letter sent to the IGP by a relation of the late lecturer, Mr. Sesugh Akume.

Recall that the Plateau State Police Command said in a statement that it swung into action immediately after it received a report that Drenkat’s home was invaded by assailants on Saturday, May 16, who shot him and abducted his daughter.
The command in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Ubah Gabriel Ogaba, said a combined team of conventional police men, mobile men and operatives from anti-kidnapping unit, as well as vigilante group and hunters were deployed to the hilly areas where the kidnapped child was suspected to have been kept. He added that the scene was searched and in the process, the kidnappers were sighted on the hill and there was a gun duel between the operatives and the kidnappers.
Ogaba further said that in the process of the search by the combined team of police men and vigilantes, one of the kidnappers named as, Ali Mohammed was shot on his right leg and subsequently arrested with one AK 47 rifle with breach Number 1984/AP 0240. 29 rounds of live ammunition was also recovered from him.
However, the spokesperson of the late lecturer’s family sought the intervention of the IGP in the letter sighted by Frontline News Online. He insisted that the Denkrat was assassinated and the attack in home was not a case of robbery and kidnap gone bad.
Akume who thanked the police on the rescue of his late relative’s daughter who was taken away by the assailants and the arrest of one of the invaders involved in the attack, said his appeal became necessary with information from his niece that attackers said they will return to kill her mother.
“I wish to respectfully submit that this was NOT a kidnap gone bad which resulted in the murder of Dr Drenkat. It was indeed a premeditated assassination. The attack was in one specific house in an entire quarters. The killers first murdered the deceased unprovoked, before demanding for money, not having same, kidnapped the child, and took away the wife’s mobile telephone.
“I wish to request that further to getting the other killers, the Nigeria Police Force under your command would do well to find the sponsors of the murder, as well as their motive, and bring them to justice. I also wish to formally register that my niece, the rescued victim, has said the killers told her more than once that they were returning to kill her mother also, that this was only the first step”, he stated.
“ I respectfully submit that until and unless the all killers, along with the sponsors are apprehended, and the motive known; as well as all the questions arising from the official communication of the Plateau State Command official press release as cited above are addressed, with all offenders, with all offenders brought to justice and corrections made, there will never be closure on this matter”, he added.
