The Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu died on Wednesday at 67.
A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state said arrangements were being concluded to swear in his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention led to Akeredolu officially handing over power to his deputy before travelling .
The state government has yet to speak on the matter.
Recall that on December 13, 2023, Akeredolu wrote the State of House of Assembly saying he is returning to Germany for further treatment and handing over power to his embattled deputy.
The governor’s spokesperson, Richard Olatunde, in a statement, said Akeredolu would transmit a letter to the state House of Assembly handing over power to his deputy, Lucy Aiyedatiwa as the acting governor.
Akeredolu reportedly battled cancer, had been receiving treatment in Germany during which he handed over to Aiyedatiwa in an acting capacity.
