JUST IN: Ekiti Court Grants Farotimi N50m Bail

The Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has granted a lawyer and human rights activist, Dele Farotimi a N50 million bail.

Sahara Reporters founder, Omoyele Sowore, shared the latest development via his X handle on Monday.

“The first hurdle was crossed. #DeleFarotimi was granted bail of N50 million surety in the like sum with someone with landed property. The case was adjourned to January 29, 2025,” the tweet read.

Recall that Farotimi, was remanded in a correctional centre by a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State on Wednesday December 4th.

Farotimi whose arrest has divided the public was arraigned over alleged defamation of character contained in his new book, ‘Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System’ where he alleged, among others, that a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Afe Babalola, had compromised the Supreme Court.

The police prosecutor, Samson Osubu, preferred a 16-count charge against  Farotimi , the popular public affairs analyst pleaded not guilty.
