The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan has sent his felicitations to Muslims in Nigeria on the occasion of this year Eid-el-Fitr which signifies the glorious end of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
In his Sallah message, Lawan urges muslims to have faith that Allah has accepted their prayers and supplications made before and during this period.
He urges them not to cease praying for wisdom for Nigeria’s leaders and for security, prosperity and peaceful transition for the country.
The text of Lawan’s message reads:
“I congratulate fellow Nigerian Muslims on the glorious end of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
“We thank Allah, the most merciful, for sparing our lives to partake in the fasting and now in the feasting afterwards.
“Having faithfully fasted and prayed throughout the holy month of Ramadan, we believe that Allah has answered our prayers and supplications.
“But the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan is not the end of prayers and supplications. Therefore, we should continue to pray for wisdom for our leaders and for security, prosperity and peaceful transition for Nigeria.
“The government needs our continued cooperation, support and understanding for effective and efficient service delivery to the great Nigerian people.
“On our part as your elected representatives in Parliament, we will continue to provide legislative interventions to enhance the efforts of the Executive arm of government towards making Nigeria a better place.
“May Allah continue to bless Nigeria”.
On his part, Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has felicitated Nigerian Muslim faithful in the State as they celebrate Eid-el-Fitri, which marks the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan fasting and prayers.
……Sanwo-Olu seeks continued piety from Muslims
Governor Sanwo-Olu in his Eid-el-Fitri message issued on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, prayed for the State and her residents especially the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitri, wishing them more of Ramadan festivities in good health and prosperity.
The Governor also urged Muslims in Lagos State and across Nigeria to continue on the path of spirituality and peaceful co-existence, adding that they should not depart from the lessons learned during the holy month, especially on perseverance, tolerance and being of good behaviour to one another.
He said: “Today, I join millions of people around the world, to wish our Muslim brothers and sisters in Lagos State and Nigeria happy Eid-el-Fitri. Today’s celebration is very unique for Muslims. It is a feast to mark the end of a month-long spiritual renewal after 29 days of fasting, prayers, and other religious acts.
“The Holy Month of Ramadan is very significant to Muslims across the world as one of the major pillars of Islam, which teaches abstinence from worldly pleasures, steadfastness in prayers and total submission to the will of Allah according to the Quranic injunctions.
“I want to admonish all of us that we shouldn’t allow all the prayers and fasting during the Holy month go to waste. Please, let us all continue to live in that state of grace. Let us continue to imbibe and show that something important has passed through us and let it reflect in our words, our lives and our relationship with fellow human beings.
“We should not limit the goodness of our deeds to Ramadan period alone, we must make the lessons and acts our ways of life.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu urged the Muslim Ummah to continue to offer prayers for continued peace and stability in Nigeria, especially as the country prepares for the swearing-in of the President-Elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu next month.
The Governor also seeks prayers for his government as he resumes for a second term on May 29 and urged Lagosians to support his administration’s quest for a Greater Lagos.
He reassured Lagos residents of his government’s commitment to good governance and people-oriented programmes, saying his administration is fully on track to delivering the dividends of democracy and good governance to the people of Lagos State.
……Gbajabiamila calls for prayers for Nigeria
Gbajabiamila also congratulated the Muslim faithful for the successful completion of the 1444/2023 Ramadan, in which he said lessons must have been learnt.
Reflecting on the significance of the just concluded Ramadan fasting, the Speaker said Muslims should internalize the lessons and good habits that usually come with the religious practice.
He called on Muslims across the country to use the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr to pray for the country.
Gbajabiamila noted that periods like this call for sober reflection and unity from all citizens irrespective of their religious beliefs.
The speaker said, “Nigeria is the only country we can call ours, hence the citizens, especially Muslims at this time, must work together and pray assiduously for continuous peaceful coexistence among the people.”
He noted that one of the lessons learnt during the holy month of Ramadan was that of compassion and care for the needy, urging Muslims to continue to be their brother’s keepers as enjoined by the Almighty Allah through the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
