Football icon, Lionel Messi won his 8th Balon D’Or on Monday. He was announced winner of the coveted award by the owner of his current club and ex-Real Madrid star, David Beckham.
The Argentina captain was bookmakers favourite to win the Ballon d’Or. His heroics in helping Argentina win the World Cup made him a favourite among pundits. He shrug off competition from Manchester City’s Erling Haaland who had a record-breaking season of his own and PSG’s Kylian Mbappe after he won Ligue 1 and played a huge part in taking France to the World Cup final.
