Nkata Ndi Inyom Igbo Hosts Annual Conference In Enugu

Nkata Ndi Inyom Igbo (NNII), is set to organize its 3rd Annual Conference in Enugu state between the 24th and 25th of October 2023. The theme of the conference is, WOMEN: A UNIFYING FORCE IN PEACE BUILDING. This conference, the association says is an opportunity for the group which is a non-partisan, non-governmental organization made up of Igbo women by ancestry or marriage to intervene as Nigerian women who are worried over the lack of peace, security and unity not just in the region but in the whole country.

Nkata in Igbo language means conversation and it is a veritable tool for conflict resolution and is as old as humanity only that humans often underrate the value of conversations and dialogues. The motto of the organization is, Partnering for Development They understand that there can be no development without security. The group having watched the men try without success to address comprehensively the issues of insecurity in the country decided to intervene through this conference by inviting development specialists and other eminent Nigerians to point a torch to how women have in history and presently continues to broker peace in families, communities and even globally. Development cannot happen if there is insecurity in any part of the nation. In global terms, women have won the Nobel Peace prize a record 15 times! That is significant!

Women thrive better when there is peace. They are the major victims when there are wars and conflicts. It is not surprising therefore that they are the most successful peace makers in the world. Arms and ammunition and political brinkmanship do not broker peace. Dialogues do. So amidst the decades of insecurity that has affected the whole country and rendered more of the informal sector drivers of the economy poorer in their millions, Nkata Ndi Inyom Igbo believes that it is time for Nigerian women to speak up and loudly too in partnership with our men.

The Board of Trustee Chairperson, H.E. Mrs. Regina Amadi-Njoku, a Development Specialist who served as an Assistant Director General and Regional Director for Africa at the International Labour Organization (ILO) with the rank of the United Nations Assistant Secretary General would deliver the Keynote Speech.

H.E Priscilla C. Otti, the wife of Abia state governor, Alex Otti would be the Guest Speaker.

They have also invited eminent Nigerians from all across the nation as speakers; Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Senator Grace Folashade Bent, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, Hajia Fatima Hassan Betara, Prof. Barth Nnaji, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, Prof. Kenneth Amaeshi, Prof. Joy Ezeilo, Prince Ozioma Ani and Prof. Chinwe Obaji are all going to advance the women for peace conversation at the conference.
