…..My daughter’s marriage to Gov. Ajimobi’s son not arranged

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state has slammed former President Olusegun Obasanjo for calling on President Muhammadu Buhari not to contest for a second term.
Speaking during an interview on Channels TV broadcast on Monday, Ganduje who threatened to sue President Buhari, should he refuse to re-contest stressed that Obasanjo lacked the moral authority to ask President Buhari jettison the idea of seeking a second term next.
According to the governor, Obasanjo was keen on a third term but it took the insistence of the Senate led by Senator Ken Nnamani to kill move by the then president to secure a tenure elongation.
In the interview monitored by Frontline News Online, Ganduje also didn’t have kind words for Gen Ibrahim Babangida (retd) who issued a statement calling on old politicians, including the president to give way for the younger generation to take over the reins of leadership.
He recalled that during military rule, the Babangida regime inclusive, coup plotters were sentenced to death for attempting to overthrow the government in power.
The governor also wondered why it had to be retired generals, who dictate who becomes president in Nigeria.
“What I know is that Babangida denied it (statement issued by his spokesmen). But let me ask you, is it the generals that will determine the democracy in Nigeria?
“You said Babangida wrote a letter and he denied it, even if he wrote it, he is entitled to his opinion. When Babangida was in power, people mentioned their opinions, people were even executed because they were looking for his job.
“So, you can see that there are a lot of contradictions in this issue”, he said.
Speaking on the marriage between his daughter, Fateemah and Idris, Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s son, the Kano governor debunked claims that it was arranged.
He said the couple met and fell in love, adding that neither he or Ajimobi objected to their relationship or their getting married.
Ganduje said his daughter was too enlightened and detribalised to seek a husband only from within her ethnicity.
” I am telling you, honestly, that it (marriage) came between the two of them. My daughter is very intelligent. She has a First Class degree in Political Science from ABTI University.
“So she is not the type I would say, ‘you must marry this person or you cannot marry that person’. It is her choice and it comes from her understanding of Nigeria even at her age”, he added.
