In an unusual move, President Bola Tinubu is currently presiding over another council meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, despite hosting a Federal Executive Council meeting on Monday.
Tuesday’s meeting, the second leg of a two-day marathon, commenced at 01:26 p.m. when Tinubu arrived at the Council Chamber.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, had informed State House correspondents that Monday’s meeting would continue on Tuesday due to a backlog of memos.
“Let me also say that another Federal Executive Council meeting is coming up tomorrow.
“Recall that since December, we’ve not had anyone, so many memos have gathered. And the President is determined to dispense with all of them.
“So we want to say that tomorrow there will be another press briefing after the FEC meeting,” said Idris.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator George Akume, the President’s Chief of Staff, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack and some ministers and ministers of state were present at the second-day meeting at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was among the ministries, departments and agencies presenting memos at the meeting.
On Monday, the council approved N4.8bn for the Presidential Treatment Programme, which will provide 150,000 HIV treatment packs from February to May 2025.
Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, told journalists that the resolution followed talks on the implications of recent U.S. policy changes on Nigeria’s health programmes, particularly regarding HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria funding.
