Gen. Sylvester Andrew Audu (retd)

Gombe south senatorial district of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Saturday endorsed Sylvester Andrew Audu as the consensus candidate of the zone for the Gombe state governorship primary polls.

Shareholders  from the District  also urged Gombe State Governor Ibrahim  Dankwambo to sensitise aspirants from other districts to key into his equity promise that the state governorship seat would shift in 2019 to Gombe south senatorial district.

These resolutions followed an earlier unanimous endorsement of Audu by the district’s Elders’ Council and a letter to the governor signed by the President Gombe South Progressive Forum, GSPF, Mallam Abubakar Bello Reme.

In a copy of the letter dated September 14, made available to newsmen, Reme stated, “It is also pertinent to remind His Excellency on the actual subject matter of this presentation in which you reiterated your commitment and concern in ensuring that the Gombe state governorship seat shifts to Gombe south in 2019 governorship elections.

“As a means of balancing the scale of imbalances in representative governorship, which should be concurred is not the exclusive reserve of only some zones. We, in southern Gombe collectively believe that it should be our own turn now, simply for political pragmatism, good understanding, unity and peace.

“In doing this sir, you have not only carved for yourself a niche of excellent leadership but promoted good governance, understanding, unity and peace between the diverse ethnic groups of Gombe state, of which, you have not only created history for yourself but also opened a vista of hope and equal opportunity for the entire citizens “.

It would be recalled that since the creation of the state in 1996, governorship of the state has been dominated and alternated between the people of the north and central senatorial districts.

Discrete checks, however, uncovered that not a few political pundits in the state believed that the emergence of a Gombe south governorship candidate will be strategic.

It further affirmed that it could boost the party’s winning chances in the general elections as the senatorial district from 1999 has ever remained the invincible stronghold of the PDP.
