The Presidential Election Petitions Court has held that the Labour Pary (LP) and the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has failed to specify exactly how they scored the majority of lawful votes in the February 25 presidential election.
In the lead judgment read by Justice Abba Bello Mohammed, said the political party made generic allegations of irregularities, suppression of votes and corrupt practices to rob them of their votes, especially in Rivers, Benue, Lagos, Taraba, Imo and Osun states but failed to specify the polling units affected.
Justice Mohammed further held that LP also failed to prove the allegations of overvoting against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and their actual reduced votes.
Meanwhile there have been reactions to the verdict of the panel with former presidential aide, Reno Omokri hailing the judiciary and coming down hard on Obi’s supporters popularly known was ‘Obidients’. Omokri took to his verified X handle @renoomokri to say, “How can such a tribal, fascist, intolerant mob like the Obidient movement think they can intimidate the judiciary into giving the third place winner victory? After today’s verdict, the DSS and the police must fish out that Obidient who threatened Justice Tsamani’s children, and any Obidient that continues to call for a military coup should be mercilessly dealt with irrespective of their status in society. What an utterly disgusting and reprehensible movement. Nothing but disgrace will be their portion! Because your yes daddy candidate lost you want coup. Never”.
Also reacting to the verdict, Sega L’eveilleur tweeting with @Segalink said: “They failed to read the Evidence Act. They failed to study the Electoral Act 2022. They failed to present evidence to back up their social media claims. Yet they want to bully the tribunal into gifting them their wishes at the expense of hundreds of millions”.
