Sweden Sends US Packing From Women’s World Cup

Fans had described it as the finals before the official final and the game between Sweden and the United States of America turned out to be a thriller which ended in favour of the Scandinavians.

The US had all the chances in normal and extra time, with Horan a particular threat, but Musovic kept them out to send it to a shootout. The US lost 5-4.

Earlier, US’ Smith had the chance to send her team to the quarters but couldn’t slot the penalty and in the end Hurtig came up with the deciding take.

The is the first time the US didn’t reach at least the semi-finals. The earliest a defending champion has gone out.
